The test analyses free cortisol at seven time points:

1. Immediately after waking - the morning cortisol peak
2. 30 minutes after waking - the cortisol awakening response
3. 1 hour after waking - continuation of the morning profile
4. 2 hours after waking - stabilisation of levels
5. 5 hours after waking - afternoon values
6. 8 hours after waking - evening values
7. 12 hours after waking - night-time values

Note: The first two morning values are combined into one, so the report contains 5 main values.

When should I collect the samples? Samples are collected at 7 time points during one day: immediately after waking, 30 min, 1 hour, 2 hours, 5 hours, 8 hours and 12 hours after waking.

Do I need to be fasting? You don't need to be fasting, but we recommend avoiding food and drink for 30 minutes before taking the sample.

Can I do the test during menstruation? Yes, menstruation does not affect the results of the cortisol test.
