Product detailed description
What is Matcha tea
Fresh tea leaves are ground into a fine powder, resulting in a remarkably green colour with an amazing taste and exceptional aroma. Matcha tea contains unique catechins and amino acids.
How Matcha tea differs from ordinary green teas
Matcha is 100% green tea ground into a fine powder (approx. 5-10 microns), and its production does not involve fermentation, with no dyes, additives or preservatives added. When you drink Matcha tea, you consume the whole tea leaf. This is the main reason why Matcha tea is 10 times stronger than a regularly brewed cup of green tea. Recent scientific studies have concluded that Matcha contains 137 times more EGCG than ordinary green tea. EGCG is the most effective antioxidant in fighting cancer and an excellent aid for burning fat. Drinking Matcha tea speeds up the metabolism by 30-40% and is often used in the fight against obesity.
Storage
Protect from direct light. Store in a cool, dry place.
Dosage
Children can also drink this tea, but in limited amounts
From 7-9 years 2.1 g of Matcha tea/day
From 10-12 years 3.2 g of Matcha tea/day
Adults 4-8 g of Matcha tea/day
Pregnant women can consume Matcha, but in limited amounts (a maximum of 4 g per day).
Preparing Matcha tea
Cold preparation:
Mix the tea with water (from 2 dl to 1.5 l, to taste) and shake well. We recommend adding a few drops of lime or a little fruit syrup to taste. You can achieve a great flavour by combining Matcha tea with water and elderflower syrup.
It is important that Matcha tea is always thoroughly mixed. For cold preparation, use a shaker or a plastic bottle.
Hot preparation:
Pour hot water (2 dl) at a temperature of approx. 70 degrees over the tea and stir well. A small milk frother is an ideal helper for preparing foam before hot preparation. You can achieve a great flavour by adding honey and lime. We recommend serving with milk to soften the taste.
Additional information
Matcha tea and weight loss
According to a recent publication by the American Society of Clinical Nutrition (an organisation focused on healthy nutrition), consuming quality green tea supports an even distribution of energy in the body and thereby speeds up the metabolism by 30-40%. This means that drinking Matcha tea significantly supports weight loss. Thanks to the increased calorie burning that results from drinking quality green tea, consuming Matcha tea has no negative effects on blood pressure, unlike taking weight-loss medication.
What can be prepared from Matcha tea
Matcha tea is a unique product in terms of how varied its preparation can be. Several kinds of hot and cold drinks, cocktails, chocolates and ice creams can be made from Matcha tea. Matcha is commonly used not only by restaurants, bars and tea rooms, but also by confectioners, chefs, bakers and others.

The difference between Matcha tea and coffee
The main difference between Matcha and coffee lies in the nutrients naturally found in both drinks. Coffee contains a strong stimulant. Matcha contains theophylline and theanine, as well as a range of minerals, vitamins and antioxidants. Caffeine is a very fast-acting stimulant that immediately finds its way into the bloodstream. Its effects appear within a few minutes and peak within 30 to 45 minutes. The peak effect of coffee is often associated with nervousness, sweating and subsequent weakness or dullness. The effects of tea, on the other hand - that is, the substance it contains (theophylline) - work quite differently. Matcha contains a range of nutrients that limit the immediate absorption of theophylline into the bloodstream, which leads to a gradual release of energy over a period of 3-6 hours.
Matcha tea and its colour
Matcha is truly 100% pure green tea. It contains no dyes, additives or preservatives. The reason for its emerald green colour is the amount of chlorophyll in the tea leaves, caused by shading the tea plant. Four weeks before the annual harvest, the tea-growing areas are completely covered with sheets. This special shading technique blocks up to 90% of sunlight, which causes the plants to grow in almost total darkness and compensate for the lack of light with excessive chlorophyll production. It is precisely this chlorophyll, enriched with amino acids, that produces the emerald green colour.
The quality of Matcha tea
Just as with wine, there is a wide range of grades and qualities of Matcha tea too. It is certainly important to think about the quality of Matcha tea. The main quality factors include:
- flavour
- High-quality Matcha is fine, smooth and slightly sweet-tasting, with a minimal hint of bitterness. The sweet taste comes from the naturally occurring amino acid L-theanine and plant fibres. Higher-quality Matcha should contain at least 19.5 mg of L-theanine per 1 gram
- colour
- Quality Matcha has an emerald green colour, while lower-quality Matcha tends to be more yellowish-brown. At lower quality grades, the taste of the tea also changes significantly.
