A roasted classic from Japan

Hojicha is a Japanese green tea that is roasted at a high temperature after harvesting. It's this roasting that gives it its characteristic brown colour and flavour profile, completely different from classic matcha – instead of grassy freshness, you get notes of toasted nuts, caramel and wood. The taste is smooth, rounded and free of bitterness, making hojicha the ideal entry point into the world of Japanese powdered teas, even for those who didn't take to the taste of matcha.

100% ingredient, nothing else

Our ALTEVITA Organic Hojicha contains a single ingredient: 100% organic finely ground Japanese hojicha green tea (Camellia sinensis) from controlled organic farming. No added sugar, no flavourings, no fillers. Country of origin: Japan. Organic farming certificate SK-BIO-003.

Since this is a ground tea powder, you consume the whole tea leaf – not just an infusion.

Preparation – traditional and modern

Traditional (bowl + whisk):
Pour 1 serving (2 g, approx. 1 teaspoon) into a bowl, add 0.2–0.5 l of water at a temperature of max. 70 °C and whisk until smooth.

Modern (shaker):
2 g of powder + water max. 70 °C into a bottle, close and shake well. Ready in a few seconds.

Tip: never use boiling water – at temperatures above 70 °C the taste becomes sharper and unpleasantly bitter.

How to drink it

• Hojicha latte – with hot milk or a plant-based drink (almond and oat work best)
• Iced hojicha – in a shaker with cold water and ice
• In baking and desserts – tiramisu, panna cotta, cheesecake, porridge
• An evening alternative to coffee – thanks to roasting, it has a gentler profile than matcha
