A new hazelnut-chocolate spread from a Swedish manufacturer, designed for those who want to satisfy a craving for something sweet with a “sweet treat” while also giving the body beneficial nutrients rather than empty calories.

Proteinella, enriched with protein (whey protein isolate), contains no added sugar. The sugar content (only 6.6 g per 100g) comes from the raw materials used in production.

Maltitol, which Proteinella contains, is actually a sugar alcohol with a calorific value about 70% lower than regular sugar. A significant advantage of maltitol is that it has about half lower glycaemic index of sucrose (regular sugar), which means it does not raise blood sugar levels the way regular sugar does. Proteinella is therefore suitable precisely for those who do not want to consume sweets, but also for diabetics. Moreover, it does not cause tooth decay, and part of this sugar alcohol is not absorbed into the blood.
 

Furthermore it also contains fibre, which slows down the absorption of sugars and thereby further slows the rise in blood sugar. And what about fats? These are present in a proportionate amount, mainly from hazelnuts and cocoa, which, besides health-beneficial fats, also contain a natural content of antioxidants and vitamins. Furthermore it does not contain palm oil.

We also compared the taste properties of this product, and we can even say that in terms of taste and composition, it can confidently compete not only with similar products on the market but even with the best-known hazelnut-chocolate spread.
 

Another interesting quality we noticed after a while of tasting was a feeling of fullness after just a small amount. That's a big plus, because even though it's a healthy product, we didn't end up eating too much of it, and we could confidently stick to the rule that “too much of anything is bad for you”.
