Detailed information

Product detailed description

Discover the true face of the Japanese tea ceremony

Imagine holding in your hands a thousand-year-old tradition of Japanese monastic monasteries, where every movement, every ritual and every cup of matcha represents a path to perfection. Altevita Kagosima Ceremonial Matcha 1st grade is not just tea – it is the living essence of Japanese culture, passed down from generation to generation for centuries.

This is not the ordinary matcha you find in supermarkets. This is ceremonial matcha of the highest quality, grown in the legendary Kagosima prefecture, where volcanic soil, mountain springs and perfect climatic conditions create the ideal environment for growing the finest tea leaves in the world.

Why is Kagosima Ceremonial Matcha 1st Grade exceptional?

🍃 Ceremonial quality – First grade of perfection

There are various grades of matcha, but first-grade ceremonial matcha is the absolute top. While culinary matcha is used for cooking and smoothies, ceremonial matcha is meant for direct consumption, where you can appreciate its delicate flavour, creamy texture and natural sweetness without any bitterness.

What makes ceremonial matcha exceptional?
✓ Harvesting only the first spring shoots – The finest and most nutrient-rich leaves
✓ Shading 3-4 weeks before harvest – Increases chlorophyll and L-theanine content by up to 300%
✓ Hand-picked – Only the highest-quality top leaves
✓ Stone mills – Traditional grinding ensures an ultra-fine texture
✓ No stems or veins – Pure leaf matter only
✓ Vivid emerald colour – A sign of the highest quality and freshness

🏔️ Kagosima – Where perfect matcha is born

Kagosima Prefecture in southern Japan is no random location. It is Japan's second-largest tea-growing region, with unique conditions:

Volcanic soil – Rich in minerals from the active Sakurajima volcano, which gives the matcha its characteristic flavour and exceptional nutrient content

Mountain springs – Pure, mineral-rich water from the Kirishima mountains nourishes the tea bushes

Ideal climate – A warm, humid climate with regular misty mornings creates perfect conditions

Traditional cultivation – Farmers here grow tea using the same methods as centuries ago

💚 137 times more antioxidants than ordinary green tea

When you drink ordinary green tea, you only consume a water infusion from the leaves. But when you drink matcha, you consume the entire tea leaf, finely ground into powder. This means you get:

137 times more of the antioxidant EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate) – the most powerful catechin, with proven effects:
- Anti-cancer effects – Protects cells from damage
- Supports fat burning – Increases metabolism by up to 40%
- Protects the heart and blood vessels – Reduces cholesterol and blood pressure- Anti-ageing effects – Slows cell ageing

🧠 L-theanine – The secret of calm energy
Ceremonial matcha contains an exceptionally high amount of L-theanine – a unique amino acid that is almost never found in any other food. Thanks to shading the leaves before harvest, the L-theanine content increases by up to 300%.
What does L-theanine do for your body and mind?
✓ Supports alpha brain waves – A state of calm alertness like the one experienced during meditation
✓ Improves concentration – Without nervousness or agitation
✓ Reduces stress and anxiety – Natural calming without sedation
✓ Improves sleep quality – Even though it contains caffeine
✓ Increases the production of dopamine and serotonin – The happiness hormones

⚡ Energy for 6-8 hours with no crash
While coffee gives you a quick surge of energy followed by an unpleasant crash and jitteriness, matcha provides a gradual release of energy over 6-8 hours.

Why is the energy from matcha different?
🔋 Caffeine bound to catechins – Gradual release into the bloodstream
🔋 L-theanine dampens the negative effects of caffeine – No jitters, no shaky hands
🔋 Stable energy levels – No peaks or crashes
🔋 Improved physical performance – Used by samurai before battle
🔋 Mental sharpness – Used by Zen monks during meditation
🌿 Chlorophyll – The green power of detoxification

The vivid emerald colour of ceremonial matcha is no accident. It is the result of an extremely high chlorophyll content, which develops through the shading of the leaves before harvest.

Detoxifying effects of chlorophyll:
🌱 Binds heavy metals – Lead, mercury, cadmium
🌱 Supports blood formation – Structure similar to haemoglobin
🌱 Alkalising effects – Balances the body's acidic environment
🌱 Cleanses the liver – Supports the body's natural detoxification processes
🌱 Freshens breath – A natural deodorant from within

How to prepare the perfect ceremonial matcha?
Preparing ceremonial matcha is an art, but with our tips you'll get it right the very first time:
Traditional Japanese method (Usucha – thin tea)

You will need:
- 1-2 grams of matcha (½ teaspoon)
- 70-80ml of water (not boiling!)
- A bamboo chasen whisk (or a small whisk)
- A chawan bowl (or any bowl)

Method:
1️⃣ Sift the matcha – Removes lumps and ensures a creamy texture
2️⃣ Heat the water to 70-80°C – Not boiling! Boiling water destroys the delicate flavours and nutrients
3️⃣ Add water to the matcha – A small amount at first, to form a paste
4️⃣ Whisk in an "M" shape – With brisk movements for 15-20 seconds, until a fine foam forms
5️⃣ Enjoy immediately – Drink slowly, with respect for tradition

Recommended dosage – Less is more

Ceremonial matcha is a concentrated source of nutrients, so the rule applies: less is more.

☕ Adults: 4-6 grams a day
Optimal distribution:
- Morning: 2g (1 teaspoon) – For energy and concentration
- Afternoon: 2g (1 teaspoon) – To maintain energy without affecting sleep
Maximum: 6g a day (3 teaspoons)

🤰 Pregnant and breastfeeding women: 2 grams a day
Matcha is safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding in moderate amounts. It contains caffeine, so we recommend consulting a doctor.
1 gram of matcha = approx. 17mg of caffeine
2 grams = 34mg of caffeine (less than a cup of coffee)

👶 Children: 2 grams a day
For children aged 6 and over, matcha is safe in low doses. We recommend starting with 1 gram and monitoring the reaction.
