Recently, its prominent place in the treatment and especially the prevention of cancer has often been emphasised, as it has the ability to prevent carcinogenic processes. It helps boost natural immunity, activating white blood cells, especially those that naturally neutralise dangerous cells in the body. Curcumin prevents the division of cancer-affected cells.

The spice, also known as "Indian saffron", has strong antioxidant effects and eliminates the negative effect of free radicals. It can firmly bind metal ions and remove heavy metals from the body. It detoxifies the body and cleanses the blood. It also contains vitamins C, B and E.

In Hindu folk  medicine, turmeric is considered a universal remedy: it helps in cases of viral infections and colds, it is used to reduce elevated body temperature and fever, and it is also suitable for inhalation in the case of respiratory tract diseases. Dissolved in honey or in ghee, it can dissolve mucus and makes coughing up phlegm easier. However, it has proven itself mainly for digestive and stomach problems: overeating, heartburn, bloating, intestinal cramps, but also for liver diseases and joint problems. It is also effective against poisoning, and after bites from snakes, spiders or scorpions.

Turmeric is a well-known and popular spice, especially in Oriental cuisine. It is obtained from the yellow root of the plant Curcuma longa, which is grown in the tropical and subtropical regions of Southeast Asia from India all the way to Indonesia. It belongs to the ginger family; the ancient Greeks, who encountered it through traders, even called it yellow ginger. The dye from the roots of true turmeric (Curcuma longa) yields the yellow dye curcumin, essential turmeric oil and spice. The root and leaves of the plant are first dried,  then crushed, and subsequently pressed. The juice obtained this way is used as a medicinal drink or a hair wrap. The spice is obtained from the plant's stem by boiling, followed by drying and grinding.

In recent times, turmeric, until now largely unknown,  has taken a prominent place in our  kitchens and recipe books, not only thanks to its characteristic taste and distinctive yellow to golden colour, through which it conjures exotic flair onto our tables, but also thanks to the health effects  attributed to it. 

Last but not least, its rejuvenating and cleansing effects are also used in the cosmetics industry.
