Basmati rice is among the finest rice in the world, if not the finest of all. It is grown exclusively at the foot of the Himalayas, in a purely natural environment, where it is enriched with minerals by water from the Himalayan glaciers. 

This type of rice is characterised by long, slender grains and a distinctive nutty flavour and aroma. Its flavour is also reflected in the name of the rice itself - in Hindi, "basmati" means "queen of fragrance". Basmati rice gets this distinctive flavour and its exceptional quality from its preparation, i.e. a two-year drying process for the grains. 

Basmati rice is a typical part of Indian cuisine, but it is also grown in Pakistan. It is exceptional not only for its flavour but also for its composition. It is characterised by a low glycaemic index - after eating it, blood sugar levels rise only slightly, and it is able to lower blood sugar and cholesterol levels. It is gluten-free, so it can also be enjoyed by people with coeliac disease. It is easy to digest, low in calories, and can be a suitable part of a diet. Its finest and healthiest variant is the brown, natural form, which is left unprocessed and reaches the market in its purely natural state. Unlike its white counterpart, brown basmati rice does not undergo hulling, polishing or grinding, so all its natural properties are preserved. 

Basmati rice contains all the macronutrients: carbohydrates, fats and proteins, plenty of minerals (iron, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, selenium, zinc, copper, manganese and molybdenum), as well as omega-3 fatty acids, B and E vitamins, biotin, pantothenic acid (vitamin B5) and folic acid. Pantothenic acid is important for fat and carbohydrate metabolism, while folic acid reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease.
