Detailed information

Product detailed description

How Matcha tea differs from ordinary green teas

Matcha is 100% green tea ground into a fine powder (approx. 5 – 10 microns), produced without fermentation, with no colourings, additives or preservatives added. When you drink Matcha tea, you consume the whole tea leaf. This is the main reason why Matcha tea is 10 times stronger than a normally brewed cup of green tea. Recent scientific studies have concluded that Matcha contains 137 times more EGCG than ordinary green tea. EGCG is the most effective antioxidant that fights cancer and an excellent aid in burning fat. Drinking Matcha tea speeds up the metabolism by 30 – 40% and it is often used in the fight against obesity.

Preparing Matcha tea

Cold preparation:

Mix the tea with water (from 2 dl – 1.5 l to taste) and shake well. We recommend adding a few drops of lime or a little fruit syrup to taste. You'll achieve a great taste by combining Matcha tea with water and elderflower syrup.

It is important that Matcha tea is always thoroughly mixed. For cold preparation, use a shaker or a plastic bottle.

Hot preparation:

Pour hot water (2 dl) at a temperature of approx. 70 degrees over the tea (1 sachet) and stir well. Before hot preparation, a small milk frother is an ideal aid for making the foam. Achieve a great taste by adding honey and lime. We recommend serving with milk to soften the taste.

The difference between Matcha tea and coffee

The basic difference between Matcha and coffee lies in the nutrients naturally found in both drinks. Coffee contains a strong stimulant. Matcha contains theophylline and theanine, as well as a range of minerals, vitamins and antioxidants. Caffeine is a very fast-acting stimulant that immediately finds its way into the bloodstream. Its effects appear within a few minutes and peak within 30 to 45 minutes. The peak effect of coffee is often associated with nervousness, sweating and subsequent weakness or dullness. The effect of tea, on the other hand – that is, the substance it contains (theophylline) – works completely differently. Matcha contains a range of nutrients that immediately limit the absorption of theophylline into the bloodstream, leading to a gradual release of energy over 3 – 6 hours.

Matcha tea and its colour

Matcha is genuinely 100% pure green tea. It contains no colourings, additives or preservatives. The emerald green colour is due to the high chlorophyll content in the tea leaves, caused by shading the tea plant. Four weeks before the annual harvest, the tea fields are completely covered with sheets. This special shading technique blocks up to 90% of sunlight, causing the plants to grow almost in the dark and compensate for the missing light with excessive chlorophyll production. It is this chlorophyll, enriched with amino acids, that creates the emerald green colour.

Average tea consumption ranges from 1-2 cups a day, which corresponds to 10-20 cups of regular green tea.
